Here’s the scenario: I felt that little ache in my throat when I swallowed. Okay – it’s probably because I just woke up, right? No way can I get sick right now. Too much going on! Fast forward two hours. The ache is a little worse, and I’m starting to feel a bit feverish. No, no, no!

Fast forward to the next day. I am death warmed over. I am achy, feverish, and my throat is killing me. “But I’m a mom. I have to power through it,” I say to myself as I fall back on the coach, precariously close to whining like a five year old.

Drag myself to the phone, oops, don’t have the doc’s phone number. Drag myself to the computer. Google it. Call the doctor. Yes! We can see you…tomorrow. Death.Warmed.Over.

Fast forward to tomorrow. Drag myself into the shower while two kids are asking about breakfast. Pretend I’m single with no kids outside the door. Get out of the shower and throw on a tee shirt and sweats. Yes, I am going to be seen in public like this. I’m too sick to care. My appointment is in half an hour. I head for the car. Can’t find the keys. Oh…wait. I remember that I’m not single and kid-less and the kids are going to have to go to the doctor with me. Find the first available clothes for each of them and ignore the fact that they look like they just had starring roles in Oliver. As orphans. And of course they can’t find their shoes.

Does that sound familiar? Does it sound fun? No, it does not. And it doesn’t have to be that way! With Amwell, you can talk to a doctor right in the privacy of your own home. I had this exact same situation recently. It was waaay better than than scenario above!

First, I downloaded the free app.

Then I created a secure and private account. Amwell takes your privacy very seriously. Your visit with the doctor is secure and HIPAA compliant. Amwell is accepted by many major insurers, with more added every day.  Enter your health insurance information for a lower cost visit, although right now, Coupondipity readers will get a their first visit for only $1! More on that later.

At that point, I just had to choose the provider I wanted to work with. That was simple, too!

When I connected with the doc, she was kind and concerned. She did not seem to be in a hurry to rush me off the phone. I sat in a comfy chair with a mug of hot tea next to me – yeah, this is far from the days of dragging two screaming kids to the doctor with me. This was calm. This was stress free. She discussed my health history, and then we talked about my current symptoms. She was very, very thorough. She gave me a prescription that hubby can pick up tomorrow on his way home after church. So much nicer than having to physically go see your doctor!!

What are some reasons why you may want to try Amwell?

First of all, the cost is lower in a lot of cases. An in-office doctor visit costs an average of $82. Amwell charges no more than $49 for a physician visit. This is a great option for people who don’t have insurance, are between jobs, or even college students looking to save money.

Amwell is positioning themselves to be the Amazon of healthcare. Check out this article!

Then there’s the accessibility. I believe we’ve partially covered that, but with Amwell, you can “see” a doctor 24/7, seven days a week, even on weekends, and all at your convenience. Try that with your regular doc. Let me know how that works out for you. And not only that, some of us have kids who are outrageously afraid of going to the doctor. Trust me, Amwell is a lot easier on them and you!

It’s extremely convenient. All you have to do is run a brush through your hair (well, you don’t have to) and grab your phone. And think about if you’re traveling! We were in Europe in May, and hubby was experiencing some sort of problem with his eye (red, watery, itchy). It would have been so convenient if we’d used an Amwell visit from Prague!

Here are some common reasons why people use Amwell:

  • Bronchitis
  • Cough
  • Sinus infection
  • Sore throat
  • Urinary tract infection
  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Fever
  • Pinkeye
  • Flu
  • Sprains and strains
  • Cold
  • Respiratory infection
  • Headache
  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Weight concerns
  • Smoking cessation

Take a look at this cute video – it really shows you what Amwell is all about!

Folks, we are living in the digital age. There are so many options now that people didn’t have 20 years ago. Take advantage of these things to make your life easier!

And of course, we have a promo code for you to get your first visit for only $1! Just use the promo code Healthy8.

This is one of the single greatest inventions of our time. No one wants to leave home when they are sick. Add in kids and we usually just say we will deal with it. This makes it so much better.

I need to see if my insurance plan takes it but I love the idea of Amwell even if they dont. The cost is inexpensive and the time you save is worth it. I thought my daughter had pinkeye (she turned out it was just an irrititation) but what if had been. I had 2 choices, wait at her doctors because she is booked solid or go to the emergency room (yikes). This is great to know about for the futurney

  18. Miranda says:

I have heard so many wonderful things about Amwell and it is exactly what we need especially this holiday season as so many people will be coming down with something
