Some of you may remember last year, when we brought you a really cool interview with the Ringling Bros. ringmaster, David Shipman. You can read the interview here. Well, Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey is back and better than ever! We were invited to see the new show and it did not disappoint!
The circus provides a magical evening. The adults are reminded of when they were kids, and the kids are just spellbound. And there is simply no better circus experience than Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey. Let’s face it – they set a bar that other shows cannot begin to reach.
We started out with the pre-show, which the boys thought was a ton of fun! My little guys got up close and personal and had a really great experience.
The little one (he’s 2) kept asking to see the elephants ALL.DAY.LONG. He was enthralled to see these giant animals literally so close that we could reach out and touch them (which we did not, because you don’t just reach out and touch a circus elephant!)
I would strongly suggest that if you attend the show, you definitely make it in time for the All Access pre-show, where your kids will really see how everything works. The circus performers work with the kids and let them try out some of the fun. How many kids can say, “Yeah, I was in the circus when I was a child.”
We picked up a few random facts, too:
- They set up a day in advance
- They travel with their own vet tech
- There’s a local vet on call in each city where a performance is held
- All animals are given a check up prior to performing
- This show has 7 horses, 3 ponies, 2 elephants and “a lot” of dogs
- Teachers travel with the show and do a homeschool curriculum with circus children
- One of the performers met his wife at the circus!

Ringling Bros. combines the high–‐energy and fiery competition of basketball with the next generation of whirling unicyclists, the legendary King Charles Troupe hailing from New York City!
Building it big, an amazing aerial casting act performed by the Dobrovitskiy Troupe will stun audiences as they toss and flip through the air only by the catch and release of each other’s hands while standing on a stilt–‐like platform. The show is Engineered for Excitement and Custom Built for Family Fun and also features a single trapeze, a crossbow act and lots more!
