truly free

If you are a Christian, you have likely heard scripture about being set free. And maybe you wondered about that. Set free from what? How? Why?

In Robert Morris’ book, ‘Set Free’, you are going to learn some truths about being free, and about a freedom available to you that you may not have even been aware you needed!

Here’s the thing that many of us struggle with: there is evil in the world. No denying it. And scripture tells us that even though we’re Christians, we can be negatively influenced by evil. So why even try to do anything about it? Because there are ways that you can be set free of those negative influences; ways that you can deflect them before they even have a chance to take root and do you irreparable harm.

Because we’re human, we are all going to be pulled toward things that are not pleasing to God. Perhaps you struggle with impure thoughts, or excessive drinking. Maybe you’re not as loving toward others as you’d like to be. Maybe you’re not physically healthy due to your own poor choices. What if you could tackle that stuff and win? You can! You know how I know? Because Jesus promised it!

In ‘Truly Free’, Morris talks about breaking snares. What is a snare? The dictionary will say it’s something that traps you. If you’re trapped, you’re not free. So these chapters will teach you how to break these snares; snares such as pride, bitterness, greed, lust, and here’s a biggie: past wounds. These chapters give you step by step “battle strategies”.

I have to admit that before I read the book, I really didn’t think I struggled with much, and didn’t feel that I needed to be ‘set free’ from anything in particular. Hah. I was bound by things that I did not even realize.

The book also includes a wonderful chapter on prayer on this topic of being set free, and a great appendix. There are even questions that you can use in a small group environment.

What Is Keeping You from Being Truly Free?

Jesus said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me” (Matthew 28:18). As believers, we have Christ and never need to be afraid, yet we are not immune to the effects of evil. Even if we’re saved and trust in Christ, we may still find areas in which we just can’t get victory. Maybe it’s a sin we’ve confessed again and again, or a constant struggle with depression, anger, or lust. These long-imbedded patterns of shameful living continue to entangle us day after day, month after month, and even year after year.

In Truly Free, bestselling author Robert Morris invites us into a glorious truth – that the promise of being set free from the slavery of sin is a promise to be set free completely. Although evil is real, we have the promise that the one who is in us is greater than the one who is in the world (1 John 4:4). Jesus saves us, trains us to resist the power of evil, and delivers us from anything that holds us back. With Jesus, we can be truly free forever.
