I am so excited! Chris Tomlin, Kari Jobe with special guest Cody Carnes (her husband ) and Bethel Music featuring Brian & Jenn Johnson, Brandon Lake, Dante Bowe and Jonathan & Melissa Heiser are going to be in concert together for the first time ever!
These artists are going to be lifting up some of your favorite songs; the ones you know and love. As a worship leader myself, I have led these songs in worship and I can’t wait to sing them with a whole room full of people who are ready to lift their voices in praise to what God has done and is continuing to do in our lives.
Some of these songs have been so meaningful in my life. The first time I heard, ‘Raise a Hallelujah’, it brought chills. We were rehearsing it to use it in one of our worship services, and I immediately started thinking of times in my life when these lyrics hit home. ‘I raise a hallelujah in the presence of my enemies. I raise a hallelujah louder than the unbelief.’ Let’s unpack that for a minute. We, as Christians, are to praise God through any circumstances. You remember how Paul and Silas did that in prison, right? These lyrics could have come straight from Paul’s pen.
Way before this song was written, I remember a time in my life when I had to struggle to praise God through the circumstances. My dad was 54 years old and had just taken on a full time ministry position at our church. He was scheduled for a short stay (24 hour) gallbladder surgery. Probably in and out the next morning. Simple. Except…not so simple. The surgeon nicked his bowel, and didn’t catch the mistake until it was too late. Calls from nurses went ignored. Within 2 days, dad had to be put into a medically-induced coma. It was touch and go for another two weeks. So many people came to the hospital that the staff thought a celebrity was there. We got kicked out of the waiting room and put into the chapel because hundreds of people showed up, lifting my dad and our family up to the Lord. Two and a half weeks after what was to be a simple procedure, my dad died. How do you praise God through that? You just do. You rely on what you KNOW of God and not what you feel at the moment. You refuse to let Satan win. You raise a hallelujah anyway.
In the presence of my enemies
I raise a hallelujah
Louder than the unbelief
I raise a hallelujah
Heaven comes to fight for me
Louder and louder, you’re gonna hear my praises roar
Up from the ashes hope will arise
Death is defeated, the King is alive
With everything inside of me
I raise a hallelujah
I will watch the darkness flee
I raise a hallelujah
In the middle of the mystery
I raise a hallelujah
Fear, you lost your hold on me
Sing a little louder
Sing a little louder
Sing a little louder
Sing a little louder
Sing a little louder
Sing a little louder
I raise a hallelujah (I raise my hallelujah)
I raise a hallelujah (I raise my hallelujah)
I raise a hallelujah
We raise a hallelujah ‘in spite of’ whatever is going on in our lives. Because you know what? Before Satan can do anything to us, he has to ask for our Father’s permission. And our Father wouldn’t give permission unless he had an ultimate plan for our benefit. I know that’s hard to understand sometimes.
