Food, Glorious Food!
We go on a food tour in every city that we visit that has one available. And there’s no better city to sample great food than in New York, with Sidewalk Food Tours.
We chose the “Lower East Side Eats” tour with Sidewalk Food Tours and it did not disappoint. Our tour guide, Matt, was a fount of information about the city and this amazing area.
There were three of us in our party: two adults and one 11-year-old. We were all hard-pressed to figure out what our favorite of the tour was, but the fact that we went back to Katz’s Deli the next day for lunch might be a clue.
We started with a knish – the perfect comfort food for a cold, windy day. Along the way, we sampled bialys, bagels, dumplings, pastrami, pickles, candy and more. The places that we visited were great neighborhood establishments; the kinds of places where the locals go and your grandmother might be sitting at the corner table.
The tour lasted about 3 hours, and the pace was great. There were enough stops so that no one got tired or cranky, and no one came away hungry!
Surprisingly, we don’t go on food tours for the food (although it’s usually fabulous!). We have found that a city’s culture is usually built around its food, so we learn a lot about the people of these places that we love to visit.
If you really want a great experience, check out Sidewalk Food Tours and book one for yourself! There are several to choose from and you’ll enjoy yourself, guaranteed! And save 15% with promo code ‘travel’. You’re welcome!
