Let’s face it. A cutting board is just a cutting board, right? Let me tell you, ladies and gents…WRONG! The wonderful folks at the John Boos Board Company were kind enough to send me one of their beautiful cutting boards to use so that I could see just how wrong I was!
This cutting board is so incredible that it’s hard to know where to start talking about it. I guess that the first thing that I would say is that it is absolutely beautiful. It’s a gorgeous piece of woodwork. Until I received this one, I just figured, “A cutting board is a piece of wood, why do I care what it looks like???” I guess you could say that ignorance was bliss…because when this board moved in to my kitchen, it owned the room! It occurred to me that we agonize over the just the right color of paint, the perfect counter tops, making sure that our appliances are top-of-the-line, but we give very little thought to our cutting board, which could feasibly be one of the most beautiful pieces in our kitchen lineup.
I chose the Newton Prepmaster III. Check this out:
- 24″x18″x2-1/4″ Northern Hard Rock Maple
- Edge Grain Construction, Boos Block Cream w/ Beeswax Finish
- Routed, Sloped Juice Groove
- Reversible w/ Removable Stainless Steel Condiment Pan
- 30 lbs
There are some really great features that I have fallen in love with on this piece. See the stainless steel tray? Love it! When you’re chopping, just slide any refuse to the tray, remove it and voila! off to the trash. Or when you’re chopping onions, celery, herbs or what have you, slide them into the tray and transfer straight to your cooking pot or bowl. It’s very important that you rub your board with board cream before use and let it sit overnight. This will seal your board and keep it in good condition. See the video below on exactly how to properly condition your board. You’ll want to do this at least once a month to protect the wood and ensure a good, long life. See this page on caring for your pieces from John Boos Boards. And here’s the video on caring for your board with the board cream.
