Book Review: Covenant Child by Terri Blackstock

Covenant Child by Terri Blackstock is a beautiful portrait of forgiveness. Amanda was the new stepmother to three year-old twin girls, but she loved them as much as she could ever love a biological child. Through a twist of fate, the girls were taken away and lived in deplorable conditions with their biological grandparents. One twin recognizes redemption immediately, but the other has to reach bottom before she can reach for the stars.

I tend to enjoy books that have a rags to riches kind of story, and this particular story is basically the Biblical story of the prodigal son, only with a 21st century young girl. It really makes the reader see the Biblical narrative in a different way. Having twin sisters, I found it interesting to see how Blackstock made them so alike, yet so different, and I could relate! Not only do these twins have to make tough choices, but their stepmother, Amanda, had her own heartbreak and difficulties, too. But like a loving mother, she never gave up on the girls, even though it may be years before she could resume her role as their mother.

This is a book you can’t put down!
