We were given the opportunity to try out Reading Horizons with our five year old son, who is in his kindergarten year and first year of homeschooling. We were looking for additional programs to supplement his curriculum. When we received the Reading Horizons program, we had not yet ordered his regular curriculum; it was during the summer and our little guy was ready to get started! He loves to learn, and he loves the computer, so we were good to go. He began with daily lessons, and he loved this program! The narrators’ voices held his interest and there were some sound effects when he would answer correctly, which made him giggle each time!
Even I learned a few tidbits about our language that I didn’t know; for example, why do some words start with C as in cat, and some start with K as in kit? You’ll need to visit the website to find the answer!
Here’s where things get really interesting. After using the program for a couple of months, it was time to order our homeschool curriculum. The company that we ordered from had us administer a test to make sure that they were sending the proper level curriculum for our child. Imagine our surprise when he tested out at reading at a 1st – 2nd grade level! And he had only been five years old for a few months at the time of the test! There is no doubt in our minds that this success was due to the Reading Horizons program.
