Book Review: The Fourth Fisherman

When I read the tagline for ‘The Fourth Fisherman’, I was intrigued. “How Three Mexican Fishermen Who Came Back from the Dead Changed My Life and Saved My Marriage”.

How could you not pick up that book? Even so, I really didn’t have a clue as to the story that was about to grab me, hold on, and not let go until the final page of the epilogue.

Although it’s two stories in one, they are woven together so seamlessly that the reader can tell almost from the beginning that these stories were, in actuality, two parts of a much bigger story – the story of faith, grace, redemption and hope.

In a nutshell, some poor Mexican fishermen hop into their fishing boat one day, intending to fish for about three days. Due to some unfortunate circumstances, they ended up being on the sea for almost a year. One would think that there’s no possible way that any of them could have survived, but then one would have to discount the possibility of miracles happening in our world.

At the same time that the fishermen are fighting to stay alive, Joe Kissack, a Hollywood insider with everything is giving up on life. He has the car, the two perfect kids, the wife, the house, the sunglasses and a golden ticket to walk the red carpet at the Emmys, and he’s miserable and empty. He had everything and wanted to give up; the fishermen had nothing and would NOT give up.

This is an incredible story of how they all came together, and how the author, Joe Kissack, found not only a will to live, but an incredible zest for life and thirst for the truth.
