Recently, I was given the opportunity to do a book review on ‘I, Saul‘ by one of my very favorite authors, Jerry B. Jenkins. If you have read any of the books in the ‘Left Behind’ series, you will know that Jenkins’ writing style is one dedicated to producing page-turners that you can’t put down. I, Saul certainly did not disappoint in that regard!
The story immediately pulls you in when a young seminary professor, Augie Knox, gets a mysterious text from a phone number in Rome, Italy that simply says, “call now. desper8″.
And away we go. Augie (Augustine Aquinas Knox) is now involved in an international race to save a 2,000 year old parchment from some dastardly antiquities dealers. During the course of events, readers are taken back to the time of Paul (Saul of Tarsus) to experience his life in biblical times, and what he writes that could change the world. It’s like having two great stories in one, but Jenkins weaves them together quite masterfully.
Although the story is fictional, there is quite a bit of factual information that allows you to learn about this period of time in a way that is not only fun but gripping.
If you enjoy fast-paced thrillers that are also both inspirational and educational, this is the book for you!
