When I started reading this book, I began to get little ‘nudges’ that told me that this author and I probably had very different ideas about our faith. When I got to page 44 and she stated that there are stories in the Old Testament that she simply does not believe, I put the book down. My rationalization for doing so is simply that I did not believe at that point that there would be any real benefit to me in reading the beliefs of someone whose beliefs opposed mine in such a big way. I do believe that the accounts of what happened in the Old Testament are true. If the author does not, that is certainly her right, but I would not be able to allow myself to really trust in anything that she may believe or disbelieve later in the book. If the book were fictional, I would have continued. But since it is not, I chose not to read the remainder.
