Some books are like a rare steak, and some are like fine wine; the nectar of the gods that you sip and savor. And some books are like M&Ms. You won’t find them on the menu at a gourmet restaurant, but they are oh-so-good and you can’t eat them without smiling! You might sneak them or carry a pack in your purse. They’re just the thing when you need a ‘pick me up’.
‘Prime of Life’ by P.D. Bekendam is like a pack of M&Ms…delightful! It won’t change your life, but it’s a pretty safe bet that you’ll enjoy each morsel.
Ben is the 38-year old janitor at Heritage Gardens, a senior adult community. And for Ben, life is just what he wants it to be…simple. Very simple. Very few surprises. His friends are all residents of the facility, and this suits him just fine, even though they’re all generations older. He does his work, goes home to arrange his books or his closet, gets up and does it all again.
But it becomes a bit more complicated when we find that Ben was actually a cardiothoracic surgeon in his past; a past that he wants to keep right where it belongs…in the past.
Through a series of events, the past refuses to stay put, and Ben has to confront some demons. The characters surrounding him are his family, each and every grumpy old man and polyester-wearing woman.
You’ll enjoy delving into Ben’s life and dilemmas as he and the residents of Heritage Gardens have to face a huge uphill battle to stay in their homes.
