Book Review: Time for Kids All Access

Recently the great folks at Time Warner sent us a couple of Time For Kids All Access books for our little guy to take a look at. He LOVES these books.

He loves books that have a lot of interesting ‘facts’ in them (he’d much rather have this than a book with a story/plot) and he also loves books that have an element of being interactive. These All Access books tick both of those boxes for our little guy.

The All Access series features “lift-and-look” pages so kids can literally peel back the layers for unprecedented access and insider knowledge of never-before-seen objects and places, such as Brooklyn Nets guard Joe Johnson’s elaborate, secret shoe closet; the set of the movie The Hobbit; and the International Space Station to see where astronauts live, eat and sleep.

These two new books build upon the success of the first SPORTS ILLUSTRATED KIDS ALL ACCESS book published in 2010. Time Home Entertainment, Inc., is expanding upon that first book by creating a first in the series for Time for Kids and a second for Sports Illustrated Kids that provides greater star power and more access to different places than the first book.

TIME FOR KIDS ALL ACCESS ($19.99, ages 8 and up): With more than 60 engaging pages chock full of color imagery, graphics and information, this book gives readers all access to the coolest people, places and things, including the following:

    • Astronaut Peggy Wilson’s gear and equipment (a “lift-and-look” page) and what everyday life is like in space for astronauts,
    • The magic of makeup and how it transforms the cast of the movie The Hobbit into the dwarves of Middle Earth,
    • A tour of the White House (a “lift-and-look” page),
    • Google headquarters in California and the under-construction Second Avenue Subway in New York City,
    • A look inside King Tut’s tomb (another “lift-and-look” page),
    • And a view of Pixar head honcho John Lasseter’s toy collection.

SPORTS ILLUSTRATED KIDS ALL ACCESS ($19.99, ages 8 and up): Want to find out what it takes for hockey player Martin Brodeur to get dressed for a game? Or how 19-year old Olympic gold medalist Mikaela Shiffrin prepares for ski races? The second title in the Sports Illustrated All Access series provides readers with a colorful, informative behind-the-scenes pass to the coolest people, places and things in sports, including:

    • A look at the San Francisco 49ers pre-game locker room routine prior to playing in London in 2013,
    • A tour of San Antonio Spurs point guard Tony Parker’s trophy room in his home,
    • The transformation of Pittsburgh Steelers’ Heinz Field into a hockey rink for the 2011 Winter Classic (a “lift-and-look” page),
    • Some of the best stories behind the NHL Stanley Cup trophy,
    • The making of an authentic Wilson football from start-to-finish (another “lift-and-look” page),
    • And the history of Major League Baseball with artifacts from the Baseball Hall of Fame.
