Saving on Travel

This is part of our series of travel tips to help you spend less on vacation! Each time we post, it will be short and sweet. No long articles to read! So let’s go!

How about saving money on a cruise??? These days, you can cruise really cheaply, and if you happen to live in a state that a lot of cruise ships depart from like I do (Florida) you don’t even have to worry about paying astronomical airfares.

But one budget item that can add up is the cost of food while you’re in port, after you’ve gotten off the ship.

Here’s the trick. Take several ziploc bags with you. On board the ship, you can usually get food 24/7 (most even offer free room service). When it’s time to go in port, simply pack your own food in your ziploc bags for great picnic lunches. This could save you about $40 for a family of four, and if you’re in port 4 days, well, you can do the math!
