When we received the opportunity to screen the new Veggie Tales DVD, ‘Noah’s Ark’,
we (especially the kids!) were thrilled.
We know by now that you can’t go wrong with anything Veggie Tales, and Noah’s Ark
did not disappoint.
The overarching theme of the story is trusting God. That sounds like such
a simple thing, but it is sometimes so incredibly difficult!
The story opens with Noah’s son, Shem, arriving back home from his honeymoon.
He and his wife have big plans to build their dream house, only to find that
Noah has plans of his own: to build an ark on the land. So even though Noah
is setting an obedient example, Shem has to come to terms with this himself.
Our kids totally enjoyed the story and really loved the music.
When I asked my seven year old what his favorite part of the movie was, he said,
“There was a big hot air balloon and a giant squid…and the giant squid ate the
hot air balloon and let out a big burp!” Yeah – he’s a seven year old boy –
anything that has anything to do with bodily functions is going to be a big hit.
But he also volunteered that, “The lesson was to trust God.” That was not prompted,
and further illustrates how clearly the Veggie Tales franchise can
communicate the gospel to our little ones.
