Max Lucado’s ‘On Calvary’s Hill’ makes the events surrounding the crucifixion jump out and grab you.

There are 40 readings in the book, leading up to the death and resurrection of Christ. You will read about the events of Holy Week in language that’s easy to understand, and that takes you moment by moment, from Christ’s triumphal entry all the way to Easter Sunday.

I was able to share these short readings with my seven year old, and it opened the door to explain many of the concepts of our Christian Faith. It had never occurred to him before that Christ could have stopped the whole process at any moment, but chose not to; chose to fulfill His Father’s mission for His life. I love how organized this book is explaining the events of that time period in our Christian History.

You could do one reading every day of Lent, perhaps. In our denomination, we don’t necessarily observe Lent, but this book would be a wonderful addition to your Lenten traditions. The readings are short and simple, and only take a few minutes. In fact, it’s best not to read more than one a day so that you have time to digest the awesome and wonderful plan that God put in place with His Son.

I love anything by Max Lucado – his style and tone of writing just speaks to me. And this little book contains many excerpts from books he’s previously written. My plan is to pull this little book out every Easter and let it help to prepare my heart for the greatest sacrifice ever known to man.
