When reading the title of this book, ’16 Verses’, you may be offended. “The Bible is so much more than 16 verses,” you exclaim. “And each and every single verse is important, especially to those of us who believe that this book is God’s Holy Word – every last word of it.” You would be right! But read on…
So how in the world can you explain the whole Bible in 16 verses? Well, you can’t. But here’s what you CAN do: you can get an overarching idea of the main concepts of God’s Holy Word; His play book for our lives. Bruno doesn’t try to explain every story and concept in the Bible. That would take far more pages than the 144 pages in this book, so it’s important to remember the purpose of this book. It’s not meant to take the place of the Bible.
The book is deep enough for seasoned believers, yet easily understood by those who are new in the faith, or searching. Although you could read it all in one sitting, I prefer to digest smaller portions, and reflect for a time upon the meaning and how the verse fits into the whole.
Let’s face it – when you’re explaining Christianity to someone, you likely have a pretty limited amount of time. You have to give them the Reader’s Digest condensed version, so to speak. This book is a wonderful resource to help you choose some hard-hitting scriptures that give a good overview of our beliefs as Christians. The book hits the important concepts from Creation all the way to Heaven and our eternal life.
This book would also be a fantastic small group study; poring over one of the 16 scriptures each week for 4 months. At the end of the study, group members will have a great understanding of important concepts that can be easily shared with non-believers.
