praying for your prodigal

I don’t think I have ever had a book so small packed with so much wisdom and insight.

I think it’s very likely that either you or someone you know has been in a position of experiencing a prodigal son or daughter. The parents did their best to raise their child in the nurture and admonition of the Lord, but the child wanders onto an unexpected, and usually treacherous, path that only leads to heartbreak for the entire family.

But this book offers hope, encouragement and comfort, either for you or for someone you know who is going through this situation.

It fully explains the Biblical parable of the prodigal son. You know – the greedy kid who wanted his inheritance before his father died and then ending up eating the pigs’ leftovers?

I attended a class one year on raising adolescents – taught by an adolescent and family psychologist who had published several books. Something he taught in that class has stuck with me for years. In the old testament when we learn about the kings of Israel and Judah, some of the verses seem to go on and on with geneology. “King so and so was a good king, and he was the father of so and so, who was a bad king,” etc. etc. etc. I often wondered why this was important. And I have to admit that I usually skipped a lot of it. But here’s what this teaches us: good parents can have kids who may not turn out quite so good. These kings pleased the Lord, so they must have been good parents, yet their children did not follow their example. So take heart…it’s not always your fault if your kids are headed down the wrong path!

This little book is only 4×6, the size of a photo. There are several things great about that. First of all, it’s not going to take you months to read. On the contrary – you can read it in one sitting. But better yet? Stick this little book in your pocket or purse. Every time you see it, you’re reminded to pray for your prodigal, your friend’s prodigal, or just prodigals in general.

The book includes several letters from parents, several prayers to help teach you how to pray and what promises to claim, and even space for journaling. All in this tiny, compact little gem of a book!

I can’t recommend it enough. Now that I am finished with it, I am going to pass it along to someone in my family who is dealing with a heartbreaking issue with one of her children. This book will provide hope and encouragement to her. Perhaps you know someone that you could give one to. These books are only $5 at Family Christian Stores!
