When I got the opportunity to review this CD from Family Christian Stores, I was thrilled! Why? Because I absolutely love Jesus Culture and especially Kristene DiMarco’s music.
Now I’m going to let you in on some things that you don’t know about me. I am a singer. You know that saying, “How do you get to Carnegie Hall? Practice, practice, practice!” Well, I practiced, practiced, practiced, and have been blessed to perform twice at Carnegie – and yes, it was totally cool. I walked onto that stage, looked around and was stunned thinking about all of the performers who had shared that space. I have also performed the National Anthem for the Miami Dolphins. Just little old me on that JumboTron, and that was super cool! As was singing in front of about 70,000+ people.
But here’s the thing: nothing thrills me more than to sing at church every Sunday, where I help to lead worship. And the music of Kristene DiMarco moves me. Totally. As a matter of fact, I do a lot of her music, and just a few days before I got this CD in the mail, I actually did one of the songs from the CD in church. I’m getting really brave and I have posted a YouTube video of it (and me) below. The sound quality is not great because it was just taken on an iPhone from the audience, but you’ll get to know me a little better. I also really enjoy doing her version of ‘Break Every Chain’.
Now on to the CD. This is Kristene DiMarco’s very first feature solo album. To me, it had a little bit of a Celtic flavor as a theme. Not overly much, just a bit. I liked it a lot! Several of the songs are loosely based on some of the old hymns of our faith, such as the one I did, ‘It Is Well’.
