Let it be jesus

When the opportunity hit my inbox to review Christy Nockels’ new CD “Let It Be Jesus”, I just had to laugh out loud at God’s timing. See, most of you know that I am a singer. I help to lead worship at my church every Sunday. I was literally, at that very moment, rehearsing the title song ‘Let It Be Jesus’ for Sunday’s service. I don’t mean that I was planning to rehearse – I mean that the Youtube version was playing at that very moment and I was rehearsing that song. That.Very.Minute.

Why the Youtube version? Because I didn’t have the CD! (Yet…). And again, God said, “Hey – here’s a little gift today just because I love you.”

I really enjoy both listening to and performing Christy Nockels’ music. My first song of hers that I just fell in love with is “Waiting Here For You”. Our congregation adores this one and you can just feel the Holy Spirit as the entire church body lifts up hands in praise.

Nockels’ has an incredible range, and a beautiful, deep register, which is difficult for a lot of singers. In a lot of cases, when a song has lower notes, a vocalist doesn’t have the depth to sing them with strength. Christy Nockels has no problem with this, and that appeals to me, because I have a very low voice as well. Something else I really love about this artist is that you can understand every single word that she sings – her enunciation is top notch, and these days, that’s hard to find, too!

This is Nockels’ very first live recorded CD and it is simply anointed. There is a variety of different styles of music on this album from slow and reflective to some that have even a bit of “country western” flavor. Two of the songs, “Freedom Song” and “If You Never” are fast, upbeat and just happy. You’ll find yourself dancing around the room when these two are on. My favorite is the title track, “Let It Be Jesus”. I love the lyrics, the melody, the instrumentation…and I love singing it! The next one that I want to introduce our congregation to is “Find Me at the Feet of Jesus”. This song is just holy. It’s slower and has a beautiful melody and harmonies.

No matter how beautiful a song may be, if the lyrics are not doctrinally sound, then it won’t make a difference to the Kingdom. One thing that you can count on with Nockels’ music is that it is soundly based on scripture and not a watered down version of truth.
